Addis Ababa tourism strategy stakeholders during a consultation meeting.

A strategy informed by its stakeholders

By September 2025, Project Green Consulting had held two consultation meetings with the Addis Ababa Tourism Commission as part of the city’s 10-year tourism strategy process.

First consultation: understanding priorities

Government institutions, private businesses, academia, civil society and tourism professional associations contributed ideas, expectations and concerns. Discussions addressed cultural assets, connectivity and the city’s diplomatic role, alongside infrastructure, service quality, marketing and product diversification needs.

Second consultation: testing the direction

The team shared its methodology, situational analysis findings and early results. Participants discussed strategic options and offered recommendations to help align the strategy with local realities and the city’s wider socio-economic direction.

Looking ahead: September 2025

The next planned stage was a validation workshop bringing stakeholders together to discuss the strategy’s priorities and implementation roadmap.

Why participation matters

Tourism development involves many organizations and interests. Consultation helps reveal practical constraints, clarify priorities and make responsibilities more visible to the people expected to put a strategy into practice.
